At Bates Roofing, we often encounter homeowners who hesitate to undertake roofing projects during the winter months, assuming that spring is the only suitable time for such endeavors. There’s a common misconception that winter isn’t an ideal season for reroofing, leading many to postpone essential roof renovations. However, we’re here to dispel this myth and shed light on why reroofing your house in December is not just acceptable but sometimes even advantageous.

  • Emergency Situations Demand Immediate Action: Roofing issues don’t always conveniently arise in spring or summer. Waiting until warmer months when your roof urgently needs attention can exacerbate problems, leading to more extensive damage and costly repairs. Addressing roofing issues promptly, even in December, can prevent further deterioration and safeguard your home’s structural integrity.
  • Professional Expertise Overcomes Winter Challenges: Experienced roofing contractors are equipped to handle winter conditions. Modern roofing materials and techniques allow for efficient installations regardless of the temperature. Professional roofers, like those at Bates Roofing, have the expertise and tools required to work in colder weather, ensuring a secure and durable roof for your home.
  • Reduced Scheduling Constraints: Spring and summer are peak seasons for roofing projects. Booking a reroofing job during the winter often means more flexible scheduling and quicker availability of skilled roofing professionals. Additionally, you might benefit from off-season discounts or promotions offered by roofing companies eager to keep their teams busy during slower months.
  • Protect Your Home From Winter Elements: Winter weather, with its snow, ice, and frigid temperatures, can exacerbate existing roof issues, leading to leaks, water damage, and compromised insulation. Reroofing in December fortifies your home against these harsh conditions, ensuring a sturdy and weather-resistant roof that can withstand winter’s challenges.
  • Preparation for Spring Showers: Completing a reroofing project in December positions your home to tackle the heavy spring rains effectively. A newly installed roof ensures better protection against moisture, preventing potential leaks and water damage when the rainy season arrives.
  • Maintain Comfort and Energy Efficiency: A well-insulated and properly installed roof contributes significantly to your home’s energy efficiency. Reroofing in December helps maintain a comfortable indoor environment during winter by preventing heat loss, leading to potential savings on heating bills.

At Bates Roofing, we understand the importance of a structurally sound roof in protecting your home and loved ones. Don’t let the misconception that winter is an unsuitable time for reroofing hold you back. Our team is ready to assist you in addressing your roofing needs promptly, efficiently, and effectively, regardless of the season.

If your roof requires attention, don’t delay. Contact Bates Roofing today to schedule a consultation and take the first step toward securing your home with a reliable, high-quality roof—no need to wait until spring when your home’s safety is at stake.

When it comes to the integrity of a roofing system, there is more to it than meets the eye! Everything in the building and structural world starts with the foundation. When the foundation is set correctly everything else can be constructed properly. If the foundation is off it affects the rest of the project very much like an airplane that starts 1" off course at the beginning of the flight but ends up miles off from its destination. Its no different on an asphalt roofing system. Even though you don't see the roof deck it's a critical component. It's crucial that your roofing contractor carefully inspects your roof deck to look for any potential rot, water damage, mold or brittle areas. Improperly ventilated homes can contain alot of moisture which can create an atmosphere for attic mold, which is extremely hazardous for your health. If the underside of your decking is full of attic mold all or some of the plywood needs to be replaced. Failed shingles, high or low nail placement, broken vents or pipe boots among other issues can cause roof leaks and water intrusion. Consistent water intrusion creates rot. The fasteners for the new shingle system will not hold in soft or rotten plywood. This can create premature failure and shingle blow off in moderate or high winds. Car decking roof decks can also present a problem. While they technically meet manufacturer codes the older wood is often extremely dry and brittle and does not hold fasteners. At Bates Roofing we utilize the best practice approach in every aspect of our business. All plywood is inspected and compromised plywood is removed and replaced to create a smooth solid substrate. A smooth substrate is also important as large variations in the plywood placement will telegraph through the asphalt shingles over time and give a new roof an ugly appearance. We are a safe choice for your roof replacement because we don't cut corners! We meet the highest level of Washington State codes, NRCA requirements and manufacturer expectations for upgraded system warranties. Below are some "found in the field" examples of replacing bad plywood during a reroof job. Thank you for choosing Bates Roofing as your local roofing contractor.

The very best accolade we can earn as a contractor is the referral of one of our customers. That says more about our level of customer service than anything else. Hiring a contractor in the roofing business is risky business! In fact the department of labor and industry reports that 80% of roofing contractors will go out of business within the first year of opening their doors. Another huge percentage of contractors will go out of business by year 5. With those facts in mind, for a homeowner to trust you enough to refer you their family or friends based on their experience with you is a incredible complement. We just recently had an amazing experience with a family that we earned that level of trust! In fact we installed three full roofing systems for one family! We are grateful to this amazing family for their business and also incredibly grateful for our Bates Roofing family of employees that produce such a great customer experience that our community feels this strongly about sharing our services . Check out the photos and story below from our Facebook page. Bates Roofing writes: Three Roofs, One Family – A Bates Roofing Story! 🏡🔨 We love when great work runs in the family!
