We love transforming homes with new roofing systems. Recently we had the opportunity to help give a Puyallup home a facelift with a CertainTeed Presidential TL asphalt roofing shingle. This particular home had an existing wood shake roof on it that was worn and past its useful life. Wood shakes are typically installed on skip sheathing, which consists of boards with spaces in between. You can see that clearly in the pictures below. New roofing systems need a solid roof deck to be installed on in order to meet manufacturer requirements. After tearing off this roof our first order of business was to install a new solid roof deck with 1/2 CDX plywood.
