We love transforming homes with new roofing systems. Recently we had the opportunity to help give a Puyallup home a facelift with a CertainTeed Presidential TL asphalt roofing shingle. This particular home had an existing wood shake roof on it that was worn and past its useful life. Wood shakes are typically installed on skip sheathing, which consists of boards with spaces in between. You can see that clearly in the pictures below.
